Causes of Oily Skin

Hormonal imbalances in adolescence cause oily skin. This type of skin is common in teenagers. The oil secretion in skin increases during teen age and decreases as age advances. Hormonal imbalance may appear during pregnancy and menopause, which lead to increase secretion of oil from oil glands of skin. Contraceptive pills and cosmetics also tend to increase the oil secretion. Humidity and Hot weather naturally increase oil secretion from oil glands of skin. The oil producing glands of skin are overactive and produce more oil. The excess oil, which oozes out gives the skin a greasy shine and the enlarged pores make the skin look coarse.

Gout is one of the forms of arthritis or joint inflammation. Usually one or two joints are affected at a time. Commonly joints of feet and ankles are inflamed in gout. The commonest site is the ball of the big toe .The first attack of gout subsides in a week or so without treatment. There may be a long gap of many months or years between attacks. As time passes the attacks become more frequent and more severe involving many joints. When the frequency of attacks increases progressive joint damage sets in. This is known as chronic gout. This leads to disability and crippling. Gout is very rare in women but usually affects men. In women it is seen after menopause.

Causes of Dry Skin

The skin loses its capacity to retain moisture, as we grow old. The extreme climatic conditions to which we get exposed, as we grow old worsen the condition and skin becomes more dry.

Dry Skin Care

  1. Avoid stale, over fried, dry food.
  2. Always consume fresh warm food with little fat like ghee or olive oil.
  3. Include sour and salty food in diet.
  4. Sweet juicy fruits are recommended.
  5. Drink 7-9 glasses of warm water everyday. (Do not drink cold water as it increases vata)
  6. Massage the whole body with herbal oil, which contains VATA balancing herbal ingredients before taking a bath.
  7. Drink the herbal tea, which contains vata-balancing ingredients with a squeeze of lemon early in the morning, in empty stomach.
  8. Liberally Apply moisturising lotion on body skin daily. This naturally supplies the moisture needed for dry skin .
  9. Sleep for 8 hrs a day. (Preferably from 9 PM to 5 AM).
  10. Avoid alcohol-based cleansers.
